  1. Our business model doesn't work in this way. We hedge the same way as clients which is why when the underlying market is limit up/down we're not pricing and restrict trades because we have to hedge client exposure. The reason we have to amend guaranteed stops is because we do hedge, for this example say most clients are long. We would have to hedge long into the market. If a client had a guaranteed stop and there's slippage IG have to take on that loss. Which is why we have to amend the minimum guaranteed stop losses in line with our risk teams assessment of the market.
  2. Hey @Kambo, Due to market volatility we're currently experiencing a large amounts of new application. We're trying to get through as many as possible but do apologise for the delay. All the best.
  3. Please note this is subject to change if any US index goes limit up/ down.
  4. US futures off their limits, clients may trade online now.
  5. Thanks for your post. Smart ISAs settle on a T+2 settlement basis. You will have to wait an additional 2 working days from the day it was sold before you can transfer the funds across to your ISA account. All the best.
  6. Due to market volatility we've had a surge in applications. All client facing members are trying to get back to as many clients as possible. Apologies for the delay in getting through to us.
  7. Hey, Thanks for your question. If the market hits limit up or down the market will simply freeze, just like when the stock markets closes. We won't close positions. If the government stop short selling it does not mean we will close your short position. The only time we can close short positions is if something called risk of recall happens. If you buy online we will call you to let you know we're closing positions. If you call and get warned that you're stocks at 'risk of recall' we will still more than likely call you when we're closing them. (this rarely happens though)
  8. Hey @Olu016, Thanks for your message. If you're new to trading I would advise using the academy to understand the product and use the videos to see what you're interested in. Academy: https://www.ig.com/uk/learn-to-trade/ig-academy Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwvras8SRKKhx_cboj2p1nw If you're already traded before and need some help with something specific let me know what you need and I will be able to help 🙂
  9. To be fair, I can't remember which countries but some do restrict our site because they believe it's gambling and it's illegal there.
  10. The desk are staying on the phone lines and having calls back to back. We're sorry that we can't get to everyone as fast as normally.
  11. Hey, We offer accounts to some Caribbean islands. I don't believe there's restrictions on our product there but best to double check. All the best
  12. Volatility reminder and extended weekend closure Due to ongoing volatility, there is significant risk that markets may gap when they re-open on Sunday night. Please ensure that you’re comfortable with the size of your positions heading into the weekend, and also be aware that we may see circuit-breakers applied over the coming days – see below. We urge you to do the following: • Monitor your positions closely at all times • Ensure you are comfortable with the size of your positions, and the effect that any market gap may have on them • Ensure you have sufficient funds on your account to cover your positions in the event of a significant market move You can also use our weekend markets to hedge against risk on your weekday positions. Please note, however, that there will be a delayed open on our cryptocurrency and weekend markets on Saturday 14 March, to allow for scheduled maintenance which should improve platform stability. These markets are planned to reopen at 8am (UK time), rather than the normal 4am. We’re sorry if this causes you any inconvenience. Circuit-breakers may affect your trades At times of high volatility, regulated central exchanges may suspend trading on one side of the underlying market (an event known as a circuit-breaker). This happened to the Dow Jones Industrial Average this week, for example. IG follows suit whenever a circuit-breaker occurs. Circuit-breakers aim to restrict trading in order to avert market crashes or spikes. The restrictions are called ‘up limits’ or ‘down limits’, depending on the direction that the market has moved. As trading is suspended in the underlying market, it will impact how you trade with us. • An up limit is the maximum amount that the price of a stock index or commodity futures contract will be allowed to increase in a single trading session. If hit, it means that buying will be suspended in the underlying market. • A down limit is the opposite to an up limit – it sets the maximum amount that the price of a stock index or commodity futures contract will be allowed to decrease in a single trading session. If breached, it means that selling will be suspended in the underlying market. If you want more information on up limit and down limit you can find that here: https://www.ig.com/uk/glossary-trading-terms/limit-up--limit-down-definition At IG, when a down limit has occurred, you will only be able to buy – whether to open or close a position – through phone dealing. However, please be aware that the price may be significantly lower when the market re-opens.
  13. Hey @SLK, You may find this link useful which explains our margin call policy. There's also example. If you have any more questions @ me so I can get back to you on this 🙂 https://www.ig.com/uk/glossary-trading-terms/margin-call-definition
  14. Thanks for your first post. We are currently experiencing high volumes of calls/ email due to increased volatility on the markets. It's not the normal for clients to have to wait so long for IG to get back to them but all of the client facing team are working as many hours as possible to get back to as many traders. We're sorry for the inconvenience.
  15. Due to the volatility of the markets our guaranteed stop distance has increased. Our risk and hedging desk determine what is appropriate for the stop distance. When placing a guaranteed stop, if it is hit and the markets slip IG take on that additional loss. We cannot close clients out at five and take on the loss at these volatile times.
  16. Do you have a passport instead to verify. It may be best to contact your account manager on the best way to resolved this issue. All the best.
  17. US rallying sharply against other currencies but not much impact on indices.
  18. @dmedin unfortunately it's not something they can do. 😞 We have added FTSE100, cable and Wall st (data only) on share dealing (some of the most traded on leveraged) in hope that one of these markets are something the trader has on so can keep an eye whilst dealing on non-leveraged.
  19. I'm with the new web trading platform developer now so I'll let them know :)
  20. Hey, developers asked why you wanted both open. Is it simply to have the ease of flicking over to another tab and accessing the other account rather than constantly changing between the two?
  21. ECB deposit rate unchanged at -0.5% ECB Monetary Policy Statement and Press Conference report at 13:30 GMT
  22. If it's us stock then the settings you may require will be Setting> Dealing US stock. https://www.ig.com/uk/investments/share-dealing/important-documents
  23. Hey everyone. You're all great contributors to this forum and I respect all of you. Please can we not be nasty to each other. Draw a line here. Thank you.
